Fugitive former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who currently lives in exile after fleeing his country in 2006 to abscond from a jail sentence for corruption, has been spotted in Singapore. Accompanied by his sister Yingluck Shinawatra -who in 2014 was also overthrown as prime minister, although she made a getaway last year to escape conviction in a criminal negligence case – the duo were seen at a hawker centre in HarbourFront yesterday.
Photos of the pair and Thaksin’s daughter Paetongtan Shinawatra surfaced on the latter’s Facebook page yesterday morning, showing the group posing by one particular shop, all smiles.
The name of the stall? Thaksin Beef Noodle. How fitting.
Apparently, owner Jaesen Ng had visited Thailand 15 years ago and took a liking to Thaksin. But as fate would have it, he never got a chance to meet the ex-prime minister until now, when the family heard about his business through social media.
Describing the honor of hosting the group, who ordered three bowls of beef noodles and one plate of phad Thai, Ng also put up a post of his own, expressing his happiness at their visit.
If you’re curious to see if there’s anything special about the beef noodles consumed by not one but two former Thai leaders, the brand has two outlets in Singapore – at Seah Im Food Centre and See Lam Hern Coffeeshop
