Drivers who park badly will be 'barged out the way' during call-outs, fire chief warns
Clueless drivers whose “selfish and irresponsible” parking blocks roads have been told they will be rammed out of the way should a fire engine need to get through.
Andrew Brodie, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s assistant chief fire officer, warned that lives won’t be lost to spare people’s paint work.
They rescue our cats, they help in almost every emergency, and some calls that just aren’t, and they risked their lives to save the Great British countryside this summer but still that doesn’t seem enough for some people to give our fire fighters a break.
Mr Brody made the statement on Twitter after woeful parking delayed a crew reaching a call in the South Wigston area of the city.
He said: “If push come to shove, pushing and shoving it is.
“Lives won’t be lost for the sake of dents and scratches on cars.”
Firefighters posted a picture of Garden Street on Saturday where the engine struggled to drive between badly parked cars.
Mr Brodie told the Leicester Mercury: “We received the call between 8am and 9am. It was to a house fire in Garden Street where it was reported that two people were trapped inside.
“In potential life and death situations such as this we send three appliances and a fire officer in a separate car.
“The crew from Central Fire Station, in the city, were assisting colleagues from Wigston.”
